Munich-based distribution company Prokino, which has always focused on quality European cinema and in particular titles selected at Cannes (from Hidden to Persepolis and Gomorrah), has bought the rights to three prominent European productions shown at the latest Cannes Film Festival.
These include Alejandro González Iñárritu’s drama Biutiful, which was shot in Barcelona and earned Best Actor for the remarkable Javier Bardem.
Prokino has also picked up the rights to the latest works by two UK masters: Mike Leigh’s Another Year, which was one of the competition favourites, and Stephen Frears’s delightfully light-hearted Tamara Drewe, which screened out of competition.
The exact release dates for these films have not yet been decided, but they should hit German screens in the first quarter of next year.
Spanish director Pedro Almodovar's next film, "La Piel que habito", will be an adaptation Thierry Jonquet's thriller, " La Mygale". Lead actors include Antonio Banderas and Elena Anaya. The film is to be released in 2012.

Cineuropa: Do you feel Finland is an exciting place to make films these days?
Matti Halonen : Finland has really good filmmakers who have passion for film and who also know how to handle the new digital technology. Recent Finnish films have been well received in Central Europe, which makes our life a bit easier. Local films have an excellent market share in Finland, at over 20% since the last decade. I find this encouraging and it has a positive influence on the film business as a whole.
