Company Profile

Producers Morten Kaufmann and Signe Leick Jensen founded Toolbox Film in Copenhagen in March 2011. Their credit list includes some of the biggest Danish box office successes in newer time.


As producers, they have been involved in Thomas Vinterberg’s THE HUNT (In competition in Cannes 2012 and nominated for a Golden Globe and an Academy Award 2013), SUBMARINO (Berlinale 2010), THE BOSS OF IT ALL by Lars von Trier, MIFUNE by Søren Kragh-Jacobsen (Silver Bear, Berlinale 2010) SUPERCLASICO by Ole Christian Madsen (shortlisted, Academy Award 2012) and THE COMMUNE (Berlinale 2016)


Signe Leick Jensen was appointed Producer on the move in Cannes 2012 by EFP, same year that Thomas Vinterbergs THE HUNT produced by Morten Kaufmann was in Competition in Cannes. Signe attended European Producers workshop EAVE in 2012 and is a member of the European Producers Network ACE. Both Signe and Morten are members of The European Film Academy. In 2013 producer, Maria Stevnbak Westergren (EAVE 2017), joined the company with special focus on children and youth content.

DANIEL tells the story of one of the most spectacular kidnappings in recent times. The protagonist is the young Danish photojournalist Daniel Rye who was held hostage for 398 days in Syria by the terror organisation Islamic State along with several other foreign nationals including the American journalist James Foley. The film follows Daniel’s struggle to survive in captivity, his friendship with James, and the nightmare of the family back home in Denmark as they try to cope with the fear that they may never see their son alive again. At the centre of this crisis, we find hostage negotiator, Arthur, who plays a pivotal role in securing Daniel’s release.
