Ed Guiney

Ed Guiney co-founded film and television production company Element Pictures with Andrew Lowe in 2001. Element has offices in Dublin and London and works across film and television production.

As Founder and CoCEO, Guiney oversees the development and production of Element Pictures film and television slate. Current film productions include Yorgos Lanthimos’ BUGONIA, starring Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons (Focus Features) and two debuts which have just premiered to acclaim at Un Certain Regard at Cannes 2025: Akinola Davies Jnr’s MY FATHER’S SHADOW, the first Nigerian film in Official Selection which was awarded a Special Mention for the Camera d’Or and Harry Lighton’s PILLION starring Alexander Skarsgård and Harry Melling which won Best Screenplay in Un Certain Regard. Ed has also produced all of Yorgos Lanthimos’ English language films: the multi–Academy Award, Golden Globe and BAFTA winning films POOR THINGS and THE FAVOURITE - as well as THE LOBSTER, THE KILLING OF A SACRED DEER and KINDS OF KINDNESS. Other film productions include all of Lenny Abrahamson’s features, most notably his Academy Award, Golden Globe and BAFTA winning film ROOM; Rungano Nyoni’s second feature film, ON BECOMING A GUINEA FOWL (BBC Film/Fremantle/A24) which won Best Director at Cannes Film Festival 2024 (Un Certain Regard). Other recent titles include Sebastián Lelio’s THE WONDER; Joanna Hogg’s THE ETERNAL DAUGHTER and THE SOUVENIR PART II; Sean Durkin’s THE NEST and .John Michael McDonagh’s THE GUARD. Current projects on the Element television slate include THE CAGE, a series created by the BAFTA-nominated writer Tony Schumacher BBC; season 3 of THE DRY, written by Nancy Harris for RTE/ITV and THE RACHEL INCIDENT for Channel 4. Previous television credits include adaptations of Sally Rooney’s novels, the BAFTA winning NORMAL PEOPLE and CONVERSATIONS WITH FRIENDS, both directed by Lenny Abrahamson; Nancy Harris’ THE DRY seasons 1 & 2; Shane Meadows’ period drama THE GALLOWS POLE; and an adaptation of Jordan Tannahill’s book, THE LISTENERS for the BBC. As a producer, Ed has been nominated for three Academy Awards for Best Picture and has won two BAFTAS, three EFAS (including the Prix Eurimages) and a Golden Globe. He also co-owns the LightHouse Cinema in Dublin, Ireland’s premier art house cinema. In May 2022, Fremantle acquired a majority stake in Element Pictures
