Japan, 1944. An apprentice pilot prone to vertigo and resistant to the logic of military sacrifice, the young Hiroo Onoda, 22, is chosen by the charismatic Major Taniguchi to be trained in a secret school, in an unknown discipline: secret war. Learning the fundamentals of survival and intelligence, Onoda essentially discovers a philosophy contrary to the official line: no suicide, no surrender, the mission is more important than anything, even if it means relying on free will and moral transgression. Soon parachuted into Lubang, where the Americans were about to land, he had to lead a guerrilla war until the Japanese troops returned. But the reality in Lubang is quite different from what Onoda expected: the weak and mediocre Japanese contingent does not want to fight, let alone obey such a young officer. Onoda barely had time to impose his authority before the Americans arrived.
