With headquarters in Amsterdam and Los Angeles, Submarine is an Emmy award- winning production company that develops and produces feature films, scripted series, documentaries, animation and transmedia projects. Submarine has established itself as an innovative company, working across multiple genres and platforms, all with an international focus. It also owns the largest animation studio in The Netherlands. Submarine boasts a roster of award-winning films and series made in collaboration with an extensive network of internationally acclaimed creators.
Submarine has produced many acclaimed films such as Peter Greenaway’s Eisenstein in Guanajuato that premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in 2015, the Emmy Award-winning feature Last Hijack, Oscar-winning director Roger Ross Williams’ documentary American Jail for CNN and the BBC, and the Netflix Original Nobody Speak: Trials of the Free Press that premiered at Sundance Film Festival 2017. Their latest documentary Bellingcat: Truth in a Post-Truth World covers the rise of the first ever citizen-journalist collective won an Emmy for best feature documentary last year.
The company has also produced animation series such as the Emmy-nominated series Picnic with Cake, The Wellie Wishers for Amazon, and is in production on Where Is Anne Frank?, a new animated film from Waltz with Bashir director Ari Folman.
Current projects include original scripted animation series Undone (Season Two) by Bojack Horseman show runners Kate Purdy and Raphael Bob Waksberg for Amazon Prime Video, drama series The Kollective by Gomorrah and ZeroZeroZero showrunner Leonardo Fasoli, and Apollo 10 1/2: A Space Age Childhood directed by Richard Linklater to be released in 2022 for Netflix. Upcoming series include Faction, a drama series by British writer Jane Eden, Proliferation, a drama series based on the book “Fallout: The True Story of the CIA’s Secret War on Nuclear Trafficking”, and Echo Boy, a romantic sci-fi thriller about a fragile young woman who falls with in love with an enigmatic robot while attempting to solve the mystery of her parents murder. Based on the book by Matt Haig (A Boy Called Christmas, The Midnight Library), this is being adapted into a series by Jamie Crichton (The Last Kingdom, The Tunnel). We also have a feature in development with Stephen Daldry and BBC Film.

Critically acclaimed producer, Femke Wolting, is the co-founder of Submarine, an Emmy award-winning production company based between Amsterdam, Los Angeles and London, which develops and produces feature films, scripted series, documentaries, animation and transmedia projects.
Under Wolting, Submarine has established itself as an innovative company, working across multiple genres and platforms, all with an international focus. She has produced a number of highly acclaimed productions, including Peter Greenaway’s Eisenstein in Guanajuato that premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in 2015, the Emmy Award-winning Last Hijack, Oscar-winning director Roger Ross Williams’ American Jail for CNN and the BBC, and the Netflix Original Nobody Speak: Trials of the Free Press that premiered at Sundance Film Festival 2017. Wolting has also been behind Amazon Prime’s gender-bending original scripted animation series, Undone Season 1 and 2, from Bojack Horseman show runners Kate Purdy and Raphael Bob Waksberg and directed by Hisko Hulsing and Apollo 10 ½: A Space Age Childhood for Netflix (2022) from Oscar-nominated director Richard Linklater. Upcoming projects include Proliferation, based on the book ‘Fallout: The True Story of the CIA’s Secret War on Nuclear Trafficking’, political thriller, The Kollective, by Gomorrah and ZeroZeroZero showrunner, Leonardo Fasoli, Echo Boy, a futuristic thriller based on the novel by New York Times bestseller, Matt Haig, developed by screenwriter, Jamie Crighton (The Last Kingdom, The Tunnel, Ripper Street), and Faction, a drama series by Jane Eden (The Split), with Miguel Alexandre (Black Island) directing. She also has a feature in development with Stephen Daldry and BBC Film.
Wolting has produced films, series, and transmedia projects across the globe, from the US and China to Abu Dhabi, Russia, and Mexico. Wolting and Submarine’s co-founder Bruno Felix are experienced in coordinating international co-productions, and collaborating with co-producers, broadcasters, and distributors including VPRO, BBC, HBO, ZDF, Arte, Channel 4, Amazon, and Netflix.

APOLLO 10 ½ is an innovative hybrid of live-action and a combination of hand-drawn and computer-animated imagery. Directed and written by Richard Linklater, the film is set against the backdrop of the 1969 Apollo mission to the moon, and is inspired by Linklater’s childhood in Houston, TX. The film will debut on Netflix in 2022. Linklater used a similar approach in his 2001 movie ‘Waking Life’, which was shot using digital video of live actors and then rotoscoped with artists.

Undone is a half-hour genre-bending animation series that explores the elastic nature of reality through its central character, Alma (Rosa Salazar), a 28 year-old assistant at a kindergarten school living in San Antonio, Texas. After getting into a near fatal car accident, she discovers she has a new relationship with time and uses her ability to uncover the truth about the death of her father (Bob Odenkirk) during her much younger years.
